Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966)
L'Atelier VII, from Derrière le miroir, No. 98 (1957)

Original lithograph after Alberto Giacometti, published in the celebrated art review Derrière le miroir, No. 98, issued by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, in 1957 and printed by the renowned Mourlot Frères workshop, Paris.

Created for Giacometti's exhibition at Galerie Maeght, L'Atelier VII presents a rare glimpse into the artist's studio environment. Through a network of nervous, searching lines, Giacometti transforms everyday objects—tables, chairs, bottles and a solitary figure—into a powerful meditation on space, perception and human presence. The composition exemplifies the artist's distinctive graphic language, characterized by its restless line work and profound psychological intensity.

Printed on wove paper (vélin), this lithograph was issued with the characteristic central fold as published. It was produced as part of the prestigious Derrière le miroir series, one of the most influential art publications of the twentieth century. Published by Aimé Maeght between 1946 and 1982, the series combined original prints by leading modern artists with critical essays and exhibition documentation, becoming a landmark in post-war European art publishing.
