The strobotuner bases its operation on an optical effect called the stroboscopic effect: have you ever seen a car that, while moving forward, has its wheels that seem to rotate backward? Or on cinema or on TV seeing the wheel (the circle) of a car that seems to rotate opposite to the direction of travel? In all these cases the cause is the stroboscopic effect.
This effect (apparent opposite rotation) is due to the difference between the rotation frequency of the object and the shutter frequency of the camera (in the case of television or cinematic images) or the persistence of vision frequency of the eye (in the case of real images).
