Description from the seller

An enchanting and large parade plate in Japanese Satsuma ceramic, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century (Meiji Period). The plate is entirely hand-painted with extraordinary craftsmanship and a wealth of detail.
The central scene depicts a group of seven samurai and dignitaries in traditional costumes and armor (yoroi), captured in a moment of assembly or military strategy. The figures express great expressiveness in their faces, with very fine details on beards and gazes.
The plate stands out for its complex geometric and floral border and for the abundant use of raised gilded gold (moriage technique), which lends luster and three-dimensionality to every armor and to the banners. Wooden base not included but only for display of the piece.
