Description from the seller

An impressive and unusually large Japanese Imari porcelain charger, attributed to the Meiji period (1868–1912), decorated in traditional underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, green and gilt enamels.

The centre depicts a Kirin (Qilin), the mythical creature symbolising prosperity, wisdom and good fortune in East Asian culture. Around the central medallion are alternating cartouches with dragons and stylised floral motifs, creating a striking and well-balanced composition. The reverse is decorated in underglaze blue with an iron-red floral mark.

With a diameter of 46 cm, this is a substantial display piece that works equally well in a collection or as an interior statement piece.

Condition

The charger is in good antique condition considering its age. Light age-related wear to the enamels and gilding.Minor firing imperfections typical of handmade Japanese porcelain from the period. No visible restorations.

The wall hanger is included and can be removed if desired. The stand is not included.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
