Description from the seller

【Discription】

This elegant Ohi Ware tea bowl (Chawan) was created by Ippei Ohi, a ceramic artist working within the long-established tradition of Ohi ware, one of Japan's most respected schools of tea ceramics.

Originating in Kanazawa during the early Edo period, Ohi ware has been closely associated with the Japanese tea ceremony for more than 350 years. It is renowned for its hand-formed shapes, warm amber glazes, and the refined aesthetics of wabi-sabi, expressing simplicity, harmony, and natural beauty.

This tea bowl features a beautiful amber glaze with a soft, lustrous finish that highlights the quiet elegance characteristic of Ohi ware. The gently hand-shaped form and subtle variations in the glaze create a warm, inviting presence, reflecting the craftsmanship and traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations.

The original signed wooden storage box (tomobako) and the accompanying leaflet are included, enhancing both the authenticity and collectability of this work.

Whether displayed as a work of Japanese ceramic art or used in the tea ceremony, this tea bowl is a fine example of the enduring appeal of traditional Ohi ware.
