Brass Sestrel sextant dating from 1940–1950 in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
For sale: an original Sestrel sextant in its original wooden storage case. This classic nautical navigation instrument is in a beautiful, authentic condition and is fully functional, though I would not recommend using it.
The sextant has in the past been carefully stripped of the original varnish/paint, giving it its natural, characterful brass appearance. This gives the instrument a unique and timeless look that will appeal to both collectors and lovers of maritime decoration.
The optics are complete, the mirrors and filters are present and the instrument works as intended. This makes it not only a beautiful decorative object, but also an authentic piece of maritime history.
This sextant is particularly suitable for:
Maritime collectors
Museums and exhibitions
Restaurants, cafés and bars with a nautical interior
Offices or reception areas
Yachts, sailing clubs and nautical associations
Film and theatre decor
Exclusive home decoration
The original wooden case is also included and completes the set.
An original Sestrel sextant is increasingly hard to find, especially in complete and working condition. A beautiful object with history, craftsmanship and presence.
Condition
Original Sestrel sextant
Fully working / no longer usable for navigation.
Complete with original wooden case
Authentic brass patina
Carefully stripped of the old varnish/paint
Normal signs of use consistent with age
A handsome and rare nautical instrument that is truly eye-catching as both a collectible object and a decorative piece.
