Beautiful FN M.70 F Standard, a real pre-war classic. Equipped with a Dutch (historical/dark blue) registration, year of manufacture 1929.
The engine block is loose and complete; it needs to be checked/inspected before it can be ridden again.
Equipped with many parts marked 'FN': a very nice and original motorcycle.
The FN M.70 was one of Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FN)'s most successful motorcycles in the 1920s and 1930s. The M70 series was built roughly between 1926 and 1930 and is characteristic of interwar motorcycle technology: a 348cc side-valve single-cylinder with unit construction engine/transmission, an advanced design for its time.
The engine was robust and reliable, and found broad use as a touring and road motorcycle.
The M70 was also well known to the public due to the successful Sahara expedition in 1927: a fleet of identical 350 cc FN’s rode from Liège to Dakar across the Sahara, which reinforced the model's reputation for durability and reliability.
Although registered as 'Standard,' this is technically the same basic model as the Sahara variant; “Sahara” was mainly used as a marketing/expedition name for a similar version.
The M70 stands out for its classic design elements and exceptional craftsmanship.
