Maarten De Vos (1532-1603), da - La cacciata dei mercanti dal tempio

Anonymous engraving that reproduces in the same direction the print Jacques De Bie had taken from a drawing by Maarten de Vos depicting Jesus driving the merchants out of the Temple.

Excellent specimen with margins, on laid paper with a watermark, in excellent condition (see photo).

Under the scene, a one-line Latin inscription "Domus mea...speluncam latronum Math 21. V.12" and the number "2" of the series "Theatrum Biblicum Hoc Est Historiae Sacrae Veteris et Novi Testamenti Tabulis Aeneis Expressae" by Claes Jansz Visscher.

In the bottom right corner: "M. de Vos inve. CJVisscher excu."

Christ drives out the merchants and money-changers from the temple with a whip. On the left, three men flee. In the foreground, two men lie beside their overturned tables, with money and goods on the ground.
