Written by Graham Gouldman, For Your Love became the band's breakthrough hit and reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. Its dramatic harpsichord-driven arrangement pushed the group away from their pure blues roots towards a more adventurous pop-rock sound. The single also marks a major turning point in British rock history. Eric Clapton played on the recording but disliked the band's increasingly commercial direction and left shortly afterwards, opening the door for Jeff Beck to join The Yardbirds.
