Wenpingtang Lacquerware Gold Maki-e Urushi Bowl / Candy Dish - Dish - Wood

A Wajima-nuri confectionery bowl with a wooden core, produced by Bunyado (Japan), featuring the classic black-exterior and red-interior lacquer scheme. The exterior boasts a lustrous, jet-black finish with a brilliant, mirror-like sheen, while the interior is coated in a rich, vibrant vermilion lacquer. The rim is adorned with three sets of pine-branch motifs executed in the *chinkin* (sunken gold) and gold-tracing techniques; the lines are delicate and fluid, lending the gold ornamentation an elegant, refined quality. The vessel features a full, rounded silhouette—characterized by a thick rim, wide opening, and a low, tapering body—exuding a sense of substantial grace; it is a classic piece of confectionery ware for the Japanese tea ceremony. Crafted with a wooden core and repeatedly coated in natural lacquer, the finish is thick and glossy.
