Folding screen with golden silk - Silk, Wood, Metal, Golden silk, Lacquer - Japan - Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century)
A great, tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) entirely covered with lustrous golden silk. In Japan, such tranquil and evenly composed screens are often placed behind ikebana arrangements or ceremonial objects, serving as an elegant backdrop that elevates the display.
The reverse is lined with glossy green silk. The screen is framed by a sturdy black lacquered wooden frame fitted with protective metal hardware.
Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century).
Dimensions:
Total width: 380.8 cm (2 x 65 cm and 4 x 62.7 cm); Height: 172.7 cm.
In a very good condition with some tiny restorations and minimal signs of wear consistent with age. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition reference.
The folding screen is well suited for mounting flat on a wall as a decorative work of art, but can also be displayed as a standalone piece.
When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
