This top-of-the-range automobile is certainly stately and distinguished; there are few cars with such regal appeal as this classic Rover P5 Saloon.

Not coincidentally, it was also known as the "poor man's Rolls".

This model was introduced in the early 1960s as the Rover 3.0 litre, and it was quite modern for the time.

The engine was a line 6 cylinder that performed very nicely as well as quietly, however it still lacked some power. A 3.5 ltr V8 engine was then purchased from Buick in the USA and built into this model (later also in other models and in the Range Rover, among others).

Hence the type designation P5B, with the "B" of Buick.

Given its high level of comfort and rear space, this model continued to be used by the British government as a service car for ministers and the like for a very long time after its production ended.

This posh dark red specimen was sold new in the Netherlands in 1968 and still has the original 1968 registration number. This is one of the first ones registered in the Netherlands.

The car was owned by the same owner for a very long time (nearly 28 years!). The technical equipment has also been overhauled. The engine has now driven about 8,000 km since being overhauled (invoice available). Consequently, it drives superbly, and is extremely comfortable.

The black leather is stunning, very supple and the headrests are a highly sought-after option. The modern radio is neatly tucked away and the original tool drawer is still present. 

There is some history present. Recently, the carburettors have been overhauled.
A number of scratches have also been repaired and a new rear bumper has been fitted.

Not a new Rover but a very well-maintained one with good history in above-average condition.

Rare in this condition and something for the true enthusiast!
