Alfa Romeo AR 51, known as ALFA MATTA.
This innovative off-road vehicle was introduced to the Italian army in 1951 to replace the Willys Jeep.
Subsequently, the cheaper Fiat Campagnola was favoured, even though the Alfa Matta was mechanically much better and more powerful thanks to its 1.9 cc petrol engine and significant technological innovations.
This is why only a little over 2,000 units were produced.
Very few units remain and are therefore of great historical interest and economic appreciation.
This specimen with chassis no. 01411 is in restoration condition, but original and complete (with the exception of the seats, steering wheel and soft top).
The car has been stationary for several years but has been stored indoors, so it is essentially sound with no rust holes.
The seats are not original, the soft top is missing, while the upper half doors are present and available.
The original petrol engine with double overhead shaft starts and runs well, but the car won't move because the pump, clutch and brakes need to be replaced.
Beneath the current green colour is the original amaranth red (probably supplied to the police, which received a total of 457 units).
The documents are present, in order and in my name, and it is registered as a 6-seater car.
The car can be seen and picked up in Parma, by appointment with Catawiki.
