Deze stoel is vlak na de introductie aangeschaft. Dit model was bedoeld als een stoel die qua hoogte en comfort tussen de Eames bureaustoel en loungestoel inzat. Vandaar de naam Intermediate Chair. Dit model 
ES-102 maakte deel uit van de grotere Aluminium Group-serie, maar uniek door de aanpassingen in hoogte- en kussenstructuur. Het heeft de kenmerkende esthetiek die bij het werk van de Eames hoort.
