For sale is an authentic hand-crafted Nepalese Gurkha Kukri knife or dagger with its original leather sheath and 2 small accompanying knives. 
It is complete and for its age in a very good condition, there are signs of age/ use/ wear and the brass has a nice patina. There is no damage to the knifes or sheath. 
These date to the mid 20th Century, they were bought as a souvenir by returning troops from the far east just after the second world war.
These knives are also known under their other spellings/ names "Khukuri" or "kukkri". This design of knife has been in use since the 7th Century and are still being used and made. The Kukri are the national weapon of Nepal and are used by the Gurkha's, other than combat the Kukri is used by farmers in harvesting crops and brush clearance, it is used as a cooking utensil amongst other versatile uses they are used ceremonially in some religious traditions and as traditional dress item. This particular knife is probably more for ornamentation or ceremonial use due to its size and decoration.
The handle is made of horn (YAK) and is decorated with brass dots. The end of the handle/hilt is decorated with a brass lions head pommel.
The leather sheath has (as well as for the main blade) two compartments for the Chakmak & Karda - the traditional/Nepalese names for the two smaller knives. Both these small knives have wooden handles with brass end caps.

The measurements of the Kukri are:
• Total length: 25.5CM (10. 1/4ths inches)
• Kukhri length without Sheath: 23CM (9 inches approx.)
• Sheath length: 18.3CM (7. 1/4ths inches)
• Blade length: 15.4CM (6 inches approx.) - Blade width: 3.2CM (1. 1/4ths inch)
• Handle length: 8.3CM (3. 1/4ths inches)
• Weight: 130.5g (knife only).

Dimensions of the CHAKMAK & KARDA (Small Knives):
• Total length: 6.5CM (2. 9/16ths inches)
• Blade length: 4CM (1. 1/2 inches approx.) - Blade width: 9.5MM (0.35 inch)
• Handle length: 2.5CM (1 inch)
• Weight: 6g (1 knife only).
Both the smaller knives are approximately the same size and weight.
