This spectacular banded iron formation from the Gorge Creek Group in the De Grey Supergroup of Western Australia. provides evidence of the earliest life on Earth: simple, single-celled bacteria inhabiting our ancient oceans. 

The oxygen produced by these bacteria mixed with iron, creating iron oxides which were deposited on the ocean floor. 

Over hundreds of millions of years, the iron oxides transformed into undulating layers of deep red jasper, shimmering hematite and vivid tiger’s eye.

This fossil is marked by striking bands of gold, red and brown, each layer a testament to the geological processes that have unfolded over millennia. 

The golden bands glisten with a warm, radiant glow, while deep red streaks evoke the richness of a fiery, primordial world.
Soft earthy browns weave through the layers, creating a mesmerizing tapestry that highlights the fossil’s natural beauty. 

These vivid colors not only capture the eye but also reflect the fossil’s deep connection to the early formation of life and the mineral-rich environments of early Earth.

 The Iron Banded Fossil is a rare and precious reminder of a time long past, offering an extraordinary window into the planet’s distant history.

Specimen is 22x 13 cm, one side polished, the other is natural.
