Germany - Map of the Habsburg Empire’s Bohemian territories; Johann C. Müller - Mappa Chorographica Totius Regni Bohemiae - 1721-1750
I am offering an incredible example of early 18th-century cartography, which could be one of your oldest and most rare pieces: the 1726 edition of Johann Christoph Müller’s Mappa Chorographica Totius Regni Bohemiae, published in Augsburg under Imperial commission. This is one of the most important and meticulously executed large-format topographical maps of the Habsburg Empire’s Bohemian territories.
Details:
• Title: Mappa Chorographica Totius Regni Bohemiae
• Cartographer: Johann Christoph Müller, with C. M. Kapitän et Ingenieur
• Published: Augsburg, 1726
• Dimensions: 121 x 174 cm (47.6 x 68.5 inches) when assembled
• Condition: Very good — preserved exceptionally well, with rich original hand-coloring
• Number of Sheets: 20 of 25 present; the very top row of the map is not included
Significance:
This map was created under direct Imperial mandate, based on Müller’s extensive field surveys, and represents one of the earliest systematic chorographic representations of the Bohemian Crownlands. Each sheet is engraved with exquisite detail, featuring not only towns and topography but also mines, viticulture, monasteries, post stations, and infrastructure - which makes it an invaluable document for scholars and collectors alike.
Its monumental scale and decorative richness - including elaborate allegorical cartouches and explanatory keys in Latin and German - make it a centerpiece item, both aesthetically and historically.
Currently, there is no active selling of this map (or any of its versions) in any form online.
I am attaching high-resolution images of the map in its assembled state, the original storage box, and detailed close-ups of individual sheets. Please let me know if any additional information or formats would be helpful.
