Flemish Tapestry, late 16th century
A finely woven fragment from what was likely a larger biblical cycle. King David (clearly identified by name) is shown seated beneath a canopy, his hands folded across his chest in a gesture of solemn reflection.

To his side, traces of another figure suggest a missing part of the scene. In the background, a camel rider looks over his shoulder, hinting at a once larger procession. Together, these elements suggest the tapestry may have originally depicted the Visit of the Queen of Sheba, a subject often portrayed with royal figures, lavish entourages, and eastern caravans.

Condition: some old restorations and traces of wear. Lining on the reverse to which the tapestry is attached, and the borders of later date.
