Rare perfectly preserved Xiphosurid (Horseshoe crab). Species not described yet.
Horseshoe crabs are arthropods of the family Limulidae, order Xiphosura. Related to eurypterids, they first evolved during the Early Ordovician Period, about 480 million years ago. Moroccan specimens from Fezouata are the oldest known Xiphosurids. They are brackish water dwellers with large shells, tiny eyes, and long tails. Sometimes labeled as "living fossils", four species are still alive today. Horseshoe crabs are rare in the fossil record.
