De "collator", die in de jaren 1940 werd uitgevonden, is een Amerikaanse kantoorklassieker: als flexibel en ruimtebesparend bureau object is het ideaal voor het sorteren en prioriteren van allerlei documenten of tijdschriften. Zelfs de langste versie - met 16 vakken en een maximale uitschuiflengte van 1,50 m - kan nuttig worden gebruikt op het bureau: Uitgetrokken tot een standaardwerkdiepte van 80 cm kunnen er papiervolumes tot een dikte van elk ongeveer 2 cm in worden geplaatst. Overigens: geplaatst op een dressoir of op de vloer is de sorteerder ook een designtijdschriftenrek.
