Antico scaldavivande per formaggio Old Sheffield, senza piedini, con due manici e sei vaschette interne, base in metallo più spessa e pesante che consente di mantenere il calore. Il coperchio, con presa a pomello, è rimovibile ed presenta una catenella che lo collega alla base in modo da mantenerlo aperto in obliquo. In origine, infatti, era stato progettato per essere posto davanti al camino, dove, utilizzando il coperchio rimovibile come riflettore, il calore veniva diretto verso il basso sul formaggio posto nelle vaschette sottostanti.
Bordo zigrinato e base che riprende lo stesso motivo del bordo superiore, angoli lavorati a foglie e volute, manici fissati al corpo con delle rosette, un motivo ripreso nel lato posteriore per fissare la catenella.
Molto pesante (Kg. 2,150) e senza piedini, forse in uso sulle navi.
Placcato in argento, senza marchi né punzoni, probabilmente in Old Sheffield, dove spesso questi non erano presenti.
In buonissime condizioni, non presenta ammaccature né segni d'uso, una delle vaschette interne appare differente per colore e spessore del metallo, forse è stata sostituita in un secondo momento (vedere foto).
Proveniente da eredità familiare.
Dimensioni: lunghezza cm 25, con i manici cm 32; larghezza cm 18; altezza cm 4, con coperchio cm 9 (con pomolo).
