Au Rwanda, Burundi, Ouganda...et comme dans beaucoup d'autres pays africains, ce sont les femmes qui sont les potières. Les hommes sont chargés de l'extraction et du transport de la terre argileuse. Tout le reste revient aux femmes.La glaise mélangée à du sable est foulée aux pieds. La technique utilisée pour la fabrication des pots est celle dite "du colombin". La potière superpose les boudins d'argile et les égalise avec une spatule, un morceau de calebasse. Les parois extérieures, encore humides, sont décorées de motifs à l'aide d'une petite tresse de jonc.
