A very attractive leaf from a Qur'an originating in North Africa in the C19th. It is written in free flowing Mahgribi script, with open curves and flourishes extending deep into the sub-linear area, occasionally touching the adjacent words. Its verticals and downstrokes are slightly curved to the left giving the script a unique grace. as is often the case with North African script. It is written with a wide and bold pen stroke.  

It has not been possible to identify the exact scripture as it appears to be a combination of several themes present in the scripture. Key elements like the "Trumpet will be blown" and "all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will fall dead" are found in Quranic verses describing the Day of Resurrection (Surah An-Naml 27:87, Surah An-Naml - 87 - Quran.com), Surah Nabaa, Chapter 78 - Al-Islam.org describes two blasts of the trumpet, one causing death and the second the resurrection. Other concepts, such as purity and divine retribution for sins and wrongdoing, are also central to the Quran's teachings on the afterlife. 

This is an interesting folio representing the calligraphic developments that took place in North Africa, or the Maghrib, comprising Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. Art of the Maghrib is distinguished by a mystical quality drawing on the region’s symbols and signs that originate in pre-Islamic Berber motifs and a rich Islamic heritage introduced to the region by Arabs in the seventh century.
