Pair of Niemeyer’s Coffee & Tea Tins – Orientalist Chinoiserie Design – 1920s

A beautiful and rare pair of large Niemeyer’s Coffee & Tea tins from the 1920s, decorated in rich Orientalist Chinoiserie style with vivid red-orange lacquer tones and detailed East-Asian inspired scenes.

Both tins feature elegant figures — a tea merchant carrying birdcages, a lady arranging flowers, and a man holding a parasol — all surrounded by delicate floral and branch motifs. These images reflect the early 20th-century fascination with Asian art and culture, as translated through European decorative design.

These tins once held high-grade imported tea and coffee, sold through Niemeyer’s — one of the Netherlands’ most respected early 20th-century coffee and tea brands, later incorporated into Douwe Egberts.
