Paul-Alain Leclerc, known as Julien Clerc, is a French singer born on 4 October 1947 in Paris's 19th arrondissement. In the autumn of 1968, Julien Clerc went on tour with Adamo. In March 1969, he took to the stage at the Olympia for the first time as the opening act for Gilbert Bécaud and was a huge success. It was on this occasion that Bertrand Castelli, a hippie billionaire, and producer Annie Fargue visited him in his dressing room. As the holders of the rights to the musical Hair in France, they offered him the lead role. Julien Clerc refused at first but eventually accepted after seeing a performance in London.
