Table - Oak, Burr walnut, Slate - 19th century table

19th Century Craftsman’s Work Table with Slate Top – Handcrafted in Solid Oak and Walnut – ca. 1880 ⸻ Description: A rare and beautifully handcrafted craftsman’s work table, dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900). This exceptional piece combines a solid oak structure with a walnut-veneered border and a central inlay of natural black slate, a material prized for its hardness and perfectly flat surface — ideal for precise handwork in artisan workshops. The table features a single front drawer with its original wooden knob, hand-cut dovetail joints, and wooden pegs instead of metal nails — clear indicators of traditional joinery techniques. The legs are individually hand-carved, each slightly different, giving the piece a unique, authentic character. Two large butterfly joints (wooden bowties) reinforce the top, a typical 19th-century method to prevent cracks in solid wood. The slate surface shows age-appropriate wear, with scratches and marks that testify to its original use — possibly in a workshop for fine carpentry, instrument making, or jewellery work. The walnut border retains its rich patina and warm honey tone, while decorative carved star motifs add an artisanal Alpine touch (likely from Southern Germany or the Tyrol region). ⸻ Condition: • Original unrestored condition, with beautiful aged patina • Traces of historic use, surface marks and inactive wormholes (typical for a 19th-century piece) • Structurally solid, suitable for decorative or light functional use • Can be lightly cleaned and waxed to enhance the finish ⸻ Materials: Solid oak, walnut, and natural slate ⸻ Dimensions (approx.): Height: 75 cm Diameter (top): 110 cm Drawer depth: 10 cm ⸻ Period: Late 19th century – ca. 1880–1900 ⸻ Origin: Southern Germany / Tyrol region
