A miniature leaf from a much used and frail Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India, circa 1425. It contains scripture from verses 56-63 of Surah An-Naml (The Ants) which describe the rejection of the Prophet Lot (Luț) by his people and Allah's subsequent punishment of them, while saving Lot and his family. The verses detail the people's response to Lot's warning by demanding his followers be expelled.  Allah saved Lots family (except Lots wife who was a disbeliever) and sent on the disbelievers a hail of stones killing them. This is to remind the devoted to reflect on Allah's power as the sole creator and provider, and dismiss false Gods. 

It is written in a distinctive style of script called Bihari (after the State), characterised by wide, heavy and extended horizontal lines, and thin verticals. In this case there are 17 lines of fine script. Simple gold 'aya' marking the verses and red diacriticals providing devotional direction. Any reference to 'Allah' is in gold leaf. A magnificent illumination innate marginal marks the 60th verse of the chapter, written in gold,  which marks the acknowledgement that God created the heavens and the earth. 

Because Bihar is a warm and humid province, manuscripts from there, do not generally keep well. This bi-folio has survived well, some damp staining and minor smudging. There has been structural support applied to the margins some time ago to keep the folio sound (see image 20e -reverse).  There are multiple references to Allah's (written in Gold) omnipotence.
