Les statues songye sont nombreuses. Généralement de sexe masculin, ils se tiennent sur une base circulaire, ont un torse allongé et des mains posées sur l'abdomen. Leur grosse tête a un menton carré ou pointu, une bouche entrouverte et un nez triangulaire. Parfois, ces statues sont suspendues à des fins apotropaïques à l'intérieur des maisons, grâce à des crochets en fer passés sous les bras. Les grands fétiches, destinés à protéger les communautés, étaient conservés dans de petites huttes, tandis que les plus petits fétiches étaient réservés à un usage individuel et protégés contre la maladie et la mort. Les manipulations de ces fétiches avaient souvent lieu pendant les phases de la nouvelle lune.
