Very nice series of small etchings of the canals of Amsterdam.

These etchings are printed by the artist himself and are signed on the bottom right:  Maarten Langbroek and titled on the bottom left.

The etchings are behind a mat of 24 x 18 cm and are in good condition.

In the early 1930s, Maarten Langbroek had private lessons with Kees van den Bosch. In 1935, he became a student at the Amsterdam Institute for Applied Arts, where he obtained the L.O. act drawing in 1938. During the Second World War, he had to go into hiding. After the war, he worked as an illustrator for various publishing houses and companies. Langbroek made mostly etchings, but also watercolours, with subjects such as marines (with ships of the Holland America line), cityscapes and animals. He was a member of the GVN (Grafisch Vormgevers Nederland). From 1969 onwards, angbroek was had private lessons with Kees van den Bosch early 1930s. Langbroek retired in 1981, he died a few years later at the age of 66. He was buried on cemetery Oostergaarde.
