Lot Description
Title:
Vintage Kodak Retina Ia (Type 015) Folding Camera + Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenar 50mm f/3.5
Product Description:
On offer is a classic Kodak Retina Ia (Type 015), a high-quality 35mm folding camera produced by Kodak AG in Stuttgart, Germany, between 1951 and 1954. The Retina series is legendary among collectors for its exceptional German craftsmanship, compact folding design, and precision optics.
This model is a notable evolution in the Retina line, being the first to feature a top-mounted rapid film advance lever and a self-cocking shutter, which significantly improved the speed of operation. It is equipped with the sharp Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenar 50mm f/3.5 lens housed in a reliable Synchro-Compur shutter.
Technical Specifications:
Camera Type: 35mm Folding Viewfinder Camera.
Film Type: 35mm (standard 135 film).
Lens: Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenar 50mm f/3.5.
Shutter: Synchro-Compur (speeds from 1s to 1/500s plus B).
Features: Rapid wind lever, accessory shoe, depth of field scale on the bottom, and a folding bed that protects the optics when closed.
Origin: Stuttgart, West Germany.
Condition Report:
Cosmetic: The camera is in good vintage condition. The leatherette shows some typical age-related wear, and the "Kodak" embossed front door exhibits a beautiful patina. The chrome top plate remains bright with minor signs of use.
Optical: The Retina-Xenar lens appears clear; no heavy scratches or fungus are visible upon inspection. The viewfinder is functional.
Mechanical: The folding mechanism operates correctly, and the bellows appear to be in good condition. The shutter fires and the film advance lever moves smoothly.
Note: As with any precision mechanical instrument of this age, a professional CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) is recommended for optimal performance if the buyer intends to use it for active photography.
