Twee volumes eerste druk in het Engels van Canadian Scenery door N. P. Willis met illustraties van W. H. Bartlett, een harde kaft-set in blauw gepubliceerde stof met gouddecoratie, 244 pagina's per deel, 28 cm bij 23 cm, circa 1840s en in goede staat met vlekken en twee plates ontbreken (Vol. 1 blz. 102 en Vol. 2 blz. 6).

William Henry Bartlett was a British artist, best known for his nummerous steel engravings.
In 1835, Bartlett first visited the United States in order to draw the buildings, towns and scenery of the northeastern states.
He made four voyages tot the United States and Canada between the years 1836 and 1852, the fruits of wich appeared in American Scenery in 1840 and Canadian Scenery in 1842 wuith text by N.P. Willis Harper.
In autumn of 1836 in company with Willis he visited Niagara Falls and presumably was briefly in Canada.
Journeyed from Halifax to Niagara in 1938.
Original blue publisher's decorative cloth boards with a central gilt medallion of a native hunting in the woods on the front boards. Flat spines with titles in gilt, all edges gilt.
Vol 1 and 2 contains, 1 map, 119 plates including 2 engraved titles.
(NB. 2 plates are missing - Vol 1 - plate page 102 (Village of Lorette) and Vol 2 - plate page 6 (Bridge at Bitow, Upper Canada).
Books in very good condition but most pages foxing -some pages with heavy foxing.
Weight both books ca. 2,5 kg.
