Wat een fantastische verzegelde/nieuwe doos van MUSE

Muse is een Engelse rockband uit Teignmouth, Devon, opgericht in 1994. De band bestaat uit Matt Bellamy (leadzang, gitaar, toetsen), Chris Wolstenholme (basgitaar, backing vocals) en Dominic Howard (drums, percussie).

Muse bracht hun debuutalbum Showbiz uit in 1999, waarin Bellamys falsetto en een melancholische alternatieve rockstijl naar voren kwamen. Hun tweede album Origin of Symmetry (2001) includeerde bredere instrumentatie en romantische klassieke invloeden en leverde hen een reputatie op van energieke live-optredens. Absolution (2003) zag verdere klassieke invloeden, met strijkers op nummers zoals "Butterflies and Hurricanes", en was het eerste van zeven opeenvolgende nummer-één albums in het VK.

Black Holes and Revelations (2006) bevatte elektronische en popinvloeden, duidelijk terug te zien in singles zoals "Supermassive Black Hole", en bracht Muse bredere internationale bekendheid. The Resistance (2009) en The 2nd Law (2012) verkenden thema’s als overheidsopdrukking en burgerlijke opstand en verstevigde Muse als een van 's werelds belangrijkste stadionacts. Hun zevende album, Drones (2015), dat bovenaan de US Billboard 200 stond, was een conceptalbum over droneoorlogvoering en ging terug naar een hardere rockklank. Het achtste album, Simulation Theory (2018), bracht synths prominent naar voren en werd beïnvloed door sciencefiction en de simulatie-hypothese. Het negende album Will of the People (2022), dat meerdere genres en thema’s uit hun vorige albums combineerde, werd uitgebracht in augustus 2022.

Muse heeft talloze prijzen gewonnen, waaronder twee Grammy Awards, twee Brit Awards, vijf MTV Europe Music Awards en acht NME Awards. In 2012 ontvingen ze de Ivor Novello Award voor International Achievement van de British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. Vanaf oktober 2022 hadden ze wereldwijd meer dan 30 miljoen albums verkocht.

XX Anniversary-editie met geremasterde audio, ongebruikte live-versies, demos en foto’s, evenals een nieuw, diepgaand interview met de band waarin ze de ups en downs van het opnameproces bespreken, evenals de sociale omgeving waarin ze zich bevonden en die de thema’s van de albums heeft beïnvloed. Daarnaast is er een interview en Q&A met de albumproducer Rich Costey.

De deluxe boxset is ondergebracht in een zilveren foiled slipcase en bevat een 40 pagina’s tellend casebound boek met gegroefde kaft. Het geremasterde Absolution-album staat op één CD en twee 12” zilveren vinylplaten. De bonusaudio staat op een tweede CD en een derde heldere 12” vinylplaat.
