Megalodon - Fossiele tand - 10 cm
Exceptional and completely natural fossil tooth of the extinct giant shark Otodus megalodon, discovered on the island of Java, Indonesia.
The name megalodon, meaning “big tooth” from the Greek, perfectly reflects the impressive nature of this specimen. Dating from the Miocene to early Pliocene (approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago), Otodus megalodon was one of the largest predators to have ever existed on Earth, with estimated lengths reaching up to 14–20 meters.
This fossil represents a well-preserved example of its massive dentition, showing the characteristic robust triangular shape and serrated cutting edges typical of the species. The natural fossilization process has given the tooth its authentic coloration and mineral texture, with no restoration or artificial enhancement.
A highly collectible piece, ideal for fossil enthusiasts and natural history collections, as well as a striking display specimen due to its prehistoric significance and visual impact.
