Beschrijving van de verkoper

Introduced in the late 1940s by the Dutch manufacturer Tahbes (Technische en Handelsbureau voor Electronica en Speciaalapparaten) in Voorburg, the Populair is a beautifully distinctive 120 roll film box-viewfinder camera. Representing a unique chapter in post-war European industrial design, this camera stands out for its elegant, streamlined aluminum body shell and its clever telescoping lens tube mechanism, which pulls outward to lock into its taking position. As one of the few internationally recognized cameras developed and manufactured entirely in the Netherlands, the Tahbes Populair is a wonderful cultural artifact and a highly prized conversational addition to any curated collection of design-forward or regional analog equipment.

KEY FEATURES

Innovative pull-out telescoping lens barrel configuration to minimize storage footprint

Durable top and bottom polished aluminum panels paired with structured black body wrapping

Integrated simple pop-up frame sports viewfinder system mounted to the top plate

Standard red-window frame-counting system positioned on the removable back panel

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Camera Type: Medium Format (120 Roll Film) Viewfinder Camera

Shutter Speeds: Simple single-speed instantaneous mechanical leaf shutter plus Time/Bulb (M/T) setting

CONDITION REPORT

Cosmetic: Very good vintage condition for an object of this material composition and era. The polished aluminum edges and panels show only light surface hairline handling marks, remaining largely free of deep pits or corrosion. The black grain wrapping is tightly affixed across the body profiles.

Optics: The simple meniscus lens element is clear and easily visible through the barrel. The internal chamber is clean with standard minor dust accumulation.

Mechanics: The telescoping barrel pulls out cleanly and seats tightly into its operational detent. The shutter mechanism cocks and trips properly via the lens assembly lever when fired.

Test status: This camera is being sold as a historical design piece and has not been tested with film for complete light-tightness or precision chemical mapping.

WHATS INCLUDED
