Patricia Lee Smith (geboren op 30 december 1946) is een Amerikaanse zangeres, songwriter, dichter, schilder, auteur en fotograaf. Haar debuutalbum Horses uit 1975 maakte haar tot een invloedrijk lid van de in New York City gevestigde punkrichting. Smith heeft rock en poëzie samengebracht in haar werk. In 1978 bereikte haar bekendste nummer, "Because the Night", mede geschreven met Bruce Springsteen, nummer 13 op de Billboard Hot 100 en nummer vijf op de UK Singles Chart.

In 2005 werd Smith benoemd tot Commandeur van de Ordre des Arts et des Lettres door het Franse ministerie van Cultuur. In 2007 werd ze opgenomen in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In november 2010 won Smith de National Book Award voor haar memoire Just Kids, geschreven om een belofte na te komen die ze deed aan Robert Mapplethorpe, haar lange tijd partner. Ze stond op plek 47 van Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, gepubliceerd in 2010, en ontving in 2011 de Polar Music Prize.
