Beschrijving van de verkoper

Pair of Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Plates – Five Bats and Magpies – Circa 1900

A beautiful pair of Chinese porcelain plates, approximately 24 cm in diameter, finely decorated in colourful famille rose enamels.

Each plate features a peach-shaped central cartouche depicting two magpies among flowering prunus and bamboo. Five iron-red bats surround the scene against a finely textured white ground. The broad borders combine turquoise-green scrollwork, ruyi-shaped motifs and delicately painted flowers.

The decoration is distinguished by its fine brushwork, detailed plumage and harmonious combination of pink, turquoise, green, blue and yellow. Floral sprigs decorate the reverse.

The composition incorporates traditional Chinese auspicious symbolism. The five bats represent the Five Blessings, the peach symbolises longevity, and the magpies are associated with happiness and good fortune.
