Oude Egypte, late periode terracotta dierenmummefiguur (Zonder minimumprijs)

Rare Terracotta animal mummy figurine Egypte, 300 BC-100 AD. Beautifully preserved. Terracotra with remains of plaster or white paint. The animal may be a lion or a ram. Was attached to an old stand L 15 cm. Comes without the stand. Provenance: German private collection 80's . Gallery N.A, 2009 The ram was associated with Amun, the Egyptian sky God who came to be regarded as a sun God and the head of the Egyptian pantheon. Although they were not worshiped as Gods, animals were considered sacred to particular Gods. During the Dynastic Period, when the government became strong and centralized, the most popular cult animals became national deities. Cult animals were raised in the temple precincts during the New Kingdom and were pampered with special attention as the living representatives of Gods. Upon their demise, they were mummified with due diligence and given spectacular funerary celebrations. Later, it became the practice to raise large numbers of animals in cult centers for sacrifice and mummification as offerings to their various deities. Will be shipped registered and insured. I combine shipping. See also my other auctions. I only ship in EU for this item. When you bid make sure you have a shipping adress in EU. The supplier warrants that they obtained this lot in a legal manner. The seller guarantees that they are entitled to sell/export this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits, like an export license, will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about the status of the permits if this takes more than a few days.
