Description from the seller
A superb ladies’ desk, Bonheur du jour type, dating from the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850–1900). This Louis-Philippe/Napoleon III–style piece blends classical elegance with fine craftsmanship.
Remarkable details:
The Origin Inkstand: The upper portion (tier) features an integrated solid-wood inkstand with its inkwell slots, a testament to the art of writing of the period. A rare and authentic detail for collectors.
Dovetail Jointing: The side drawers feature magnificent handcrafted dovetail joints. This type of assembly guarantees exceptional strength and attests to the high quality of cabinetmaking.
• Marquetry work: The tabletop is adorned with a superb geometric veneer pattern in 'fern' or 'diamond point', creating natural plays of light depending on how it is illuminated.
• Finish and Ornamentation: The piece is accentuated by friezes of sculpted pearls and rests on four tapered legs, finely fluted and twisted in the lower part.
• Condition: Good overall, with an authentic patina. Presence of normal signs of use for its age (old woodworm marks, treated). Supplied with its original functional key.
