Description from the seller
Domus Nova Coffee Table – Gio Ponti
for Domus Nova / La Rinascente, Italy, c. 1950
An exceptionally elegant and sculptural coffee table designed by Gio Ponti and produced by Domus Nova for the renowned Italian department store La Rinascente, circa 1950.
The table is executed in finely crafted walnut wood, topped with a smoked glass surface, and features a beautifully shaped lower shelf with a subtle diamond-pattern motif—a refined detail that is strongly associated with Ponti’s architectural and furniture designs. The flowing, organic lines of the base give the table a light and architectural presence, while remaining highly functional.
This example is preserved in very good original condition. The smoked glass top is in good condition, and the walnut wood displays a rich, warm patina consistent with age and careful use. The shelf supports show minor, age-appropriate play. This does not affect the table’s stability or functionality in any way and the table remains solid and perfectly usable.
A timeless and highly collectible Italian modern coffee table by one of the most influential designers of the 20th century.
In the last picture you can see the chair before reupholstery. We carefully selected the exact same colour tone as the original fabric to remain fully faithful to the original appearance.
This chair was purchased by the first owner at Metz & Co in 1970. The original upholstery was too worn and damaged to preserve, therefore we chose to have it professionally reupholstered with great respect for the original design and materials.
