Rover Mini British Open 1.3i Mpi, first registered in February 1998, I acquired it from the first owner in July 2020, with first original Italian number plate, actual mileage 95,500 km.
Rare combination of metallic Tahiti Blue and custom-made biscuit coloured leather interiors instead of the original beige leather with tartan fabric, black carpeting, briar wood dashboard and trim.
Electric sun roof and front windows.
MOT completed and valid until August 2023, road tax paid for the whole of 2022.
The first owner was a lady who has driven only Minis for all her life.
Fully restored in 2021, it has been kept covered in my garage ever since, and only driven for short weekend trips on sunny days. It has not been in the rain since its restoration.
Entirely repainted by a professional coachbuilder specialised in restorations; the sills have been changed, the spots of rust at the base of the windscreen, in the boot and at the base of the doors have been removed; I have more than 400 photos available, showing the phases of the restoration.
Vehicle with all original metal sheet and crystals, with chassis number stamped on windscreen and rear window.
The engines has had regular maintenance and oil change, so that the cylinder block and the gearbox did not need any overhaul. Nevertheless, the cylinder head was removed for inspection and overhauled, and the seal was replaced with Payen reinforced head gaskets.
The engine runs very well, revs up nicely and makes this Mini quite nippy and fun to drive.
The gearbox works well, the gear change is smooth and without grinding noise.
The engine compartment was thoroughly degreased, disassembled and carefully overhauled, stripped of the paint and repainted in order to obtain the shiny and well-kept engine compartment shown in photo.
With new clutch, oil temperature sensors, cooling liquid sensors, air intake, oxygen sensor, water pump, belt, turnbuckle bearing, sleeves, alternator, and many other items (see full list of replaced parts)
The front suspension frame did not need paintwork so it was possible to retain the original varnish which also applies to the engine compartment, where the old soundproofing panel was removed for inspection and I decided not to reinstall it because it traps dirt and water that could cause rust. The soundproofing is provided by the internal panel behind the dashboard (footwell).
The rear frame was removed to examine and eliminate spots of rust, its paint stripped; it was then treated with rust protector and repainted, overhauled with a new set of connectors, bushings and screws.
The entire brake system has been overhauled and refurbished: calipers, pipes, brake pads, discs and linings, cylinders, pump and distribution valve.
All the suspension consumables have been replaced: bushings, arms, wheels bearings. New suspension rubber cones (Mini Sport - Alex Moulton) with Adjusta-Ride height adjustment kit and Bilstein shock absorbers.
The 12” Minilite rims have been sanded and powder coated with Rover MNH Silver Sparkle finish, then treated with ceramic protector; all the chrome-plated wheel bolts are new.
The four Michelin XZX145/70-12 tyres are new, while the spare wheel comes with the original Pirelli Cinturato tyre, probably used once. The original jack and tool kit are included.
The interior was remade by the first owner with splendid biscuit coloured leather she had previously bought during a trip to Morocco; it has been cleaned, treated with specialist products and retouched in the typical wear point (top left of the driver's seat) where there are still some small signs of wear.
New gearbox cover. Black carpeting vacuum cleaned and treated, then covered with a new set of Minispares floor mats.
Spectacular combination of internal and external colours; interior with new briar wood details. Dashboard, door slats, interior door handles, gear stick knob.
The sunroof has been disassembled and overhauled; the external canvas is in very good condition, having been replaced a few years ago, while the imperial is new, original replacement in the appropriate grey vinyl (Newton Commercial)
