History:
In the 1980s, there was a regulation in Italy that rewarded engines with a displacement under 2.0 litres with tax breaks that resulted in significant savings, particularly for more expensive sports cars such as Ferrari.

Ferrari took advantage of this to introduce 'downsized' V8 engines, which were successful among Italian customers.
In those same years, owners of the 208 GTB and 208 GTS 2.0-litre models appreciated the savings they enjoyed by buying that car as the tax paid was about half at the time of purchase, but they also demanded more performance from the car.

Ferrari met this demand with a solution that was proving to be very successful on tracks all over the world: the turbocharger.

And so the 208 GTB Turbo, the first Ferrari road car to be supercharged by a turbocharger, was unveiled at the 1982 Turin Motor Show, followed closely by the launch of the GTS Turbo.
Mechanically and cosmetically it was identical to the 308, the only difference being the 1991 cm³ V8 engine of the Dino 208 GT4, which was available in coupé (GTB) and targa (GTS) versions with a detachable top.
