The US has always been the target market for Mercedes, especially when it comes to selling prestigious models. 
The R107 series SL was no exception, two-thirds of the total production was registered in the USA. The SL R107s planned for the US market differ from their European counterparts in a number of aesthetic details. First and foremost, the front light clusters are split into two round headlamps each, the bumpers are much more prominent (203 mm more for each, both front and rear) and they feature a catalytic converter.
