This is a rather special Volkswagen Passat. Enthusiasts know that a Passat W8 is in itself a special car. A wolf in sheep's clothing, recognisable only by its four exhausts at the rear and slightly sportier wheels. But because of the W8 in the front, this Passat has 275 hp with around 370 Nm of torque. Not bad for an average family sedan, right? 

However, this one is not so ordinary. The car in question is a Passat W8 Protection, also known as the 'Security' edition. A car equipped with a class B4 security package. This means the car is armoured and equipped with, among other things: armoured polycarbonate coated glass (bulletproof), moulded composite fibre elements and panels in the roof + door panels + footwell + luggage compartment and an intercom with a microphone.

Unlike the BMW 540i Protection, this one is indeed heavier than a 'normal' version of the Volkswagen Passat. This one has a registered weight of 2,170 kg. While a regular W8 weighs 1,730 kg. A bit more expensive in terms of road tax, but you will be driving something truly unique.

A car with a story. It is thought, for example, that the car was owned by notorious criminal Willem Holleeder. He gained notoriety in 1983 as one of the kidnappers of beer magnate Freddy Heineken and his driver Ab Doderer. After serving his prison sentence, he worked his way up to the top of the Amsterdam crime scene. In late December 2007, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for extortion of real estate dealers. The car was also allegedly once owned by Nina Storms, better known as Nina Brink. best known as the chairman of the board of internet provider World Online at the time of its IPO in 2000 and subsequent sharp fall in its stock market value.

The car drives, brakes and shifts well. Documents are missing. The car has signs of wear all around. MOT has expired as the car has been standing still. 

This car will be displayed at the festive Grand Opening of HooG Selections in Katwijk on Saturday 1 July. During this opening of the new 6,000 m2 showroom full of young classic and classic cars, this car will also be on display. This is the official viewing day as well. By having a viewing day, this auction is a public auction. Any bid placed on this lot is binding. Please make use of the viewing day before placing a bid. No right of return applies to this lot.
