Austin Healey Sprite "Frogeye"

De Austin Healey Sprite kwam in 1958 op de markt, als een nieuw en betaalbaar sportwagentje. Donald Healey voorzag een toekomst voor deze kleine tweezitter. Men construeerde in eerste instantie 2 prototypes die men wilden voorzien van wegklapbare koplampen. Echter uit kostentechnische en cosmetische overwegingen werd daar vanaf gezien en werden vaste koplampen bovenop de motorkap geplaatst.  Zo kreeg de auto een eigen gezicht én de legendarische bijnaam Frogeye.

Deze mooie en gave Austin Healey werd nieuw uitgeleverd in 1959 in de Verenigde Staten. Daar bleef de auto tot 1990. In dat jaar werd de auto geïmporteerd door de Duitse firma Christoph Dorrscheid uit Friedrichsthal. Deze firma verkocht de auto in 1992 aan de Heer Greiner uit Pleidelsheim. 

De heer Greiner is van het geboortejaar 1928 en heeft de auto gehad tot 2022. Tot dan was de auto nog geheel in originele en ongespoten staat. Echter vond de heer Greiner dat het lakwerk van de auto vanwege lichte steenslag wel bijgewerkt diende te worden. Om die reden werd de auto, jammer genoeg aan de voorzijde door hem geschuurd. Door ziekte en zijn leeftijd (94) kon hij dit niet afmaken en heeft de auto toen verkocht aan een bedrijf in klassieke auto's in Heilbronn.

Bij die firma kochten wij dit juweeltje aan. De auto werd begeleidt door een kompleet nieuw interieur, nieuwe softtop, tapijtset en 4 nieuwe banden. Ook de tonneau-cover is nieuw. 

Technisch was alle techniek aangepakt, remmenrevisie, motor en versnellingsbak revisie, nieuwe uitlaat en 4 nieuwe banden op de stalen velgen met originele wieldoppen, die met de auto worden meegeleverd. Ook is er bij de auto nog de originele en geheel gave voorbumper, die eveneens op verzoek kan worden meegeleverd. 

Zoals op de foto's te zien hebben wij recentelijk de auto voorzien van 4 gloednieuwe Minilite velgen met 4 nieuwe banden. Aan het voorraam zijn 2 nieuwe windvangers gemonteerd, die het open rijden veraangenamen. Na de revisie is er slechts zo'n 4000 kilometer met de auto gereden. 

Inmiddels hebben wij de auto kaal gemaakt en van een nieuwe laklaag voorzien. Uiteraard in de originele fabriekskleur. Het is goed om te melden dat er nergens roest op de auto werd aangetroffen.

De afneembare en nieuwe softtop kan geheel worden opgeborgen in de daarvoor bestemde hoezen. Ook de aluminium opzet ramen worden in hoezen opgeborgen in de bagageruimte achter de stoelen. Ook vindt u hierbij de originele krik en wielsleutel, eveneens in een hoes. De skai-leren stoelen werden door ons voorzien van echt leer, afgewerkt met een rode bies.

Samengevat gaat het hier dus om een technisch en cosmetisch zeer gave Austin Healey Frogeye die weer jarenlang mee kan en waar heel veel plezier aan beleefd kan worden.

Indien gewenst kan de auto tegen meerprijs worden voorzien van een Nederlands kenteken. Ook transport binnen Europa kan door ons in overleg worden verzorgd.

Het dient aanbeveling de auto eerst uitgebreid te bekijken, alvorens biedingen te doen. Dit om discussies achteraf te voorkomen. De auto staat in Valkenswaard Nederland. Via Catawiki maakt u hiervoor een afspraak.
