In nieuwstaat verkerende Mercedes SL65 V12 Twaalfcilindermotor met twin-turbo, 612 pk vermogen en 1.000 Newtonmeter, slechts 3,8 seconden op 100 km/u en 12,9 seconden op 200 km/u.

Je hoeft geen verstand van auto’s te hebben om te kunnen zien dat de Mercedes SL AMG is gebaseerd op een legende uit het verleden. De Mercedes historie is bijzonder rijk te noemen, maar er is één model dat er met kop en schouder bovenuit torent: de enige echte 300SL gullwing . Feitelijk is de SL 65 AMG opvolger van deze iconische Benz uit de jaren 50. En dat zie je. Op de eerste plaats aan de karakteristieke, de grote portieren. Maar ook de extreem lange neus met reusachtig brede grille, de ver naar achteren geplaatste cabine, luchtinlaten in de voorste schermen en korte ronde achtersteven verwijzen naar het origineel. We kunnen hier dan ook wel spreken van een tijdloos design.

Werkelijk waar een unieke automobiel voor de echte liefhebber. Deze AMG is uitgevoerd met een V12 motor. De SL-Klasse met deze motor is maar zelden gemaakt. De meerprijs van een V12 SL65 motor t.o.v. een V8 SL55 was toen 80 tot € 100.000 euro. Er waren maar weinig klanten die besloten voor het maximale en het meest speciale te gaan door i.p.v. de V8 de V12 te bestellen.

De SL 65 AMG is een echte Gran Turismo en straalt aan alle kanten exclusiviteit uit. Hij valt dan ook bij velen in de smaak. De lage, brede koets geeft de Mercedes ook zeker sportwagen looks. De SL heeft een stalen kap, en is dus een coupe en een cabriolet tegelijk.

Het is al even bekend dat Mercedes gaat stoppen met de 6,0-liter V12 Biturbo. Maar dat betekent natuurlijk niet dat we niet meer kunnen genieten van oudere modellen waar dat machtige blok nog wél in het vooronder ligt.

Deze versie van de Mercedes-Benz SL is geleverd van januari 2005 tot april 2008. De laatste nieuwprijs bedroeg € 301.900.-
