Hans Georg Kresse (1921 - 1992) was zoon van Ludwig Hermann Georg Kresse, violist, en Hendrina Maria Jordan, telefoniste. Uit het huwelijk met Anna Zandstra (geb. 1937) werden 1 zoon en 2 dochters geboren. Bij Wet 7-8-1953 (Staatsblad nr. 408) genaturaliseerd tot Nederlander. Van jongs af was Hans Kresse gegrepen door de tekenkunst. In 1938 debuteerde hij als striptekenaar met 'Tarzan van de apen'. Hij had geen enkele tekenopleiding genoten en was een typisch natuurtalent. Begin 1945 ontstond 'Eric de Noorman', een gezamenlijk idee van Kresse en Marten Toonder. 'Eric de Noorman' ontwikkelde zich in de loop der jaren tot een van de meest geliefde Nederlandse Striphelden. Maar Kresse tekende nog veel meer dan alleen 'Eric de Noorman'. Eveneens van zijn hand zijn de strips 'Erwin', 'Xander' en 'Vidocq' . Verder publiceerde hij enkele Indianenstrips, waarvan 'Matho Tonga', 'de Gouden Dolk' en 'de Indianenreeks' voorbeelden zijn. Zeer belangrijk was ook Kresse's werk als illustrator. Zo maakte hij omslagen en illustraties voor tijdschriften en boeken zoals o.a. Panorama, Margriet, Revue, Donald Duck, Pep, Arendsoog, Winfair, De Vijf, Pim Pandoer etc. Naast zijn stripverhalen verzorgde Kresse dus duizenden illustraties in onder meer de Arendsoog-boeken en weekbladen als Panorama, Margriet, Donald Duck en Pep. Kresse kreeg in 1976 de Stripschapprijs en in het volgende jaar de 'Prix Alfred', een Franse stripprijs. Hans Kresse behoorde tot de belangrijkste striptekenaars en illustratoren van Nederland in de 20ste eeuw en heeft verschillende Nederlandse striptekenaars geïnspireerd, hoewel niemand erin slaagde zijn technisch volmaakte stijl goed na te volgen. Kresse vond zichzelf geen kunstenaar, maar veel meer een 'handwerksman'. Het schrijven van de verhalen vond hij op een gegeven moment leuker en uitdagender dan het maken van de striptekeningen die erbij hoorden. Kresse verklaarde in een interview dat Eric de Noorman echt 'voor hem geleefd had'. In 1976 kreeg hij voor zijn gehele oeuvre de Stripschapsprijs en een jaar later werd hij in Frankrijk onderscheiden met de Prix Alfred. In 1990 werd de stichting De Kresse-kring opgericht die zich ten doel stelde het werk van Kresse voor het nageslacht te bewaren en publicaties te verzorgen. Verder was hij wars van 'drukte' rondom zijn persoon en vond het bijvoorbeeld veel mooier dat zijn strips zo populair waren en (via diverse dagbladen) een miljoenenpubliek haalden

Deze kavel bevat een prachtige, grote kunstdruk van een strook uit Simson, een ongepubliceerd verhaal dat Hans Kresse eind jaren 1940 maakte. Kijkt u eens naar die zwart/wit werking, de virtuositeit in het geschetste lijnenspel, de mimiek, enz. Dit kunnen alleen de allergrootsten.
