3 antieke snuif-/tabaksdoosjes – been/hoorn, hout en metaal – 19e eeuw

Set van drie fraaie, kleine antieke doosjes, vermoedelijk gebruikt als snuif- of tabaksdoosjes. De stukken zijn met zorg vervaardigd uit een combinatie van been/hoorn en hout, met handgesmede metalen ringen en scharnieren.

Afmetingen: ca. 7 × 4 × 3 cm (2 stuks) en 6 × 4 × 3 cm (1 stuk)
Materiaal: been/hoorn, hout, metaal (koper/ijzer)
Periode: 19e eeuw (ca. 1850–1900)
Conditie: in goede antieke staat, met sporen van gebruik en ouderdom (zoals te zien op de foto’s).

De doosjes waren bedoeld om gemakkelijk mee te nemen; dankzij de ring konden ze worden bevestigd aan een riem of ketting. Het gaat om charmante gebruiksvoorwerpen met een mooie patina, geliefd bij verzamelaars van curiosa en tabaksantiek.
Een bijzondere set voor de liefhebber van antiek en curiosa.

Extra info:
Deksel en bovenzijde: been (of mogelijk hoorn, gezien de lichte doorschijnendheid en natuurlijke verkleuring).
Zijkanten/basis: bij twee lijkt het hout, bij één mogelijk ook been of hoorn.
Scharnieren en ringen: handgesmeed ijzer/koperlegering (kijkend naar de oxidatie en de vrij eenvoudige afwerking).
Datering
Deze stijl van kleine doosjes komt veel voor in de 18e – 19e eeuw, maar kan ook iets later zijn (tot begin 20e eeuw).
De handgesmede bevestigingen en de gebruikte materialen wijzen eerder richting 19e eeuw (ca. 1850–1900).
Gebruik
Meest waarschijnlijk: snuifdoosjes (voor gemalen tabak).
Soms werden dit soort doosjes ook gebruikt als reisdoosjes voor medicinale kruiden of poeders.
De ring maakt dat ze makkelijk aan een riem, ketting of zak konden worden bevestigd → praktisch voor onderweg.
