HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
What a great driving car: this powerful convertible, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This 560 SL features the largest engine available at the time and was delivered new on September 14, 1988, in Brockton (Boston, USA). The car comes with a comprehensive "History File." This includes a Carfax report, which states that the Mercedes has a clean history. It also documents the low mileage. On April 27, 1992, it was 69,856 MLS; on November 26, 1993, it was 99,000 MLS; on June 27, 1994, it was 107,380 MLS; on February 22, 2002, it was 110,157 MLS; on February 28, 2003, it was 111,588 MLS; and on September 27, 2011, it was 125,593 MLS. The original documentation even includes the Mercedes-Benz pre-delivery inspection report, which was completed before delivery to the first owner. The delivery log and original instruction booklets are also included. This beautiful Mercedes has seen little use in recent years, so a major service and maintenance are recommended.
Exterior
The car is finished in the chic color "Astral Silver Metallic" with a "Royal Blue Leather" interior. It has a body-colored hardtop. The paintwork is in good condition with minimal wear. The chrome and rubbers are also in excellent condition, as are the bright light clusters. The car is fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels with Michelin tires that still have good tread.
Interior
The interior is beautifully finished in a stylish blue with wood inlays. Besides the leather upholstery, the rest of the interior is upholstered in blue velour, along with a white headliner. Comfort options include power windows and mirrors, a center armrest, rear window defroster, climate control, and the original Becker Grand Prix radio. The leather is free of tears, and the rest is also in good condition. The car is a versatile driver, lending itself well to touring and vacationing thanks to its high level of comfort. But the sporty driver will also find what they're looking for; with 204 hp and excellent handling, the car is smooth and agile. Many people don't know that the C107 (coupe) had a successful racing career. In short, a timeless beauty in exceptional condition that will be a great addition to any collection or car enthusiast.
TECHNICAL
The car has recently undergone some technical work: the fuel pump, fuel filter, and mounting kit, including the pressure control valve, were replaced in 2025. The idle valve was also replaced, and a Bilstein steering damper was installed. Various suspension bushings were replaced. The battery was also replaced in 2025. The car starts, drives, and brakes well. Under the hood of this example lies the 5.6-liter V8. This engine is known for its reliability and produces approximately 230 hp and 373 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly. The deep roar from the large V8 produces an impressive yet refined sound.
General
The Mercedes-Benz SL R107, with 18 years of production, is the longest-running Mercedes series (after the G-Class) from 1971 to 1989. This speaks volumes about the model's success. It was therefore intended to be a worthy successor to the W113 Pagoda, which in turn was the successor to the legendary W198 300 SL. During its production run, the R107 was the only Mercedes convertible available and was available with various engines, from a 2.8-liter 6-cylinder to a 5.6-liter V8. The 560 designates the 5.6-liter engine, a V8. Fewer than 50,000 units were produced, and they were exclusively available in the American, Japanese, and Australian markets. A beautiful visual detail of the car are the ribbed taillights: these were designed to prevent dirt and maintain optimal illumination. In terms of safety, the car was ahead of its time: it was equipped with crumple zones and a reinforced windshield to protect the occupants in the event of a rollover. The R107 SL remains a timeless, reliable, and sought-after classic.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration.
