Ancient Egypt – Carnelian Heart Amulet – 14 mm – Late Period (664–332 BC) Small heart amulet (ib) carved from natural yellow-orange carnelian and finely polished. In ancient Egyptian belief, the heart was regarded as the seat of consciousness and moral identity, playing a central role in the ritual of the Weighing of the Heart in the afterlife. Carnelian, a stone associated with the sun and protective qualities, was widely used in the production of amulets and devotional objects.
