Ancient Roman terracotta oil lamp with a flat base, marked by concentric circles enclosing the makers' mark / owner of the pottery workshop ‘STROBIL’ (Strobilus).
-> Strobilus has been referred to as the “Father of the Firmalampe” and is considered that he may have invented the shape in the late sixties or early seventies of the first century AD. The workshop was situated in North Italy in the vicinity of Modena. Strobilus lamps were well known especially in Military context and are recovered across the whole of Europe.

Width: ± 51,1 mm
Good and solid, intact condition. Some wear consistent with age and use.
